I am speaking to you as a homeowner who has tested every sort of flooring you can think off. I have come to the conclusion that laminate flooring is the best you can ever buy.
How did I come to this conclusion? Let me first emphasize that I am not a rep for laminate floors nor do I sell them. But I am a firm believer that every homeowner should install or hire someone to install this material in their house.
Here is my reasoning. Keep in mind that as I write this I am trying to take and consider all the points from an objective standpoint though as you can tell from the title of this post, and blog, and I not objectionable. My opinion is heavily biased towards laminate flooring though I try not be.
Laminate looks so much better than carpet. I am serious when I say this. And I was a big carpet fan because in the winter it feels much warmer and holds heat better. When you live in Anchorage, AK like I do that really does mean something.
But laminate flooring is so much more practical and looks a lot better than carpet. It really accentuates any furniture you have and makes it stand out. When it comes to carpet it just drowns it.
The upkeep is a lot better as well. You do not have to vacuum laminate flooring and if you spill a drink on it you just have to wipe it up. When you have carpet you have to get the foaming stain remover and scrub until your hands turn red. Believe me I have done it more than once and several times with red wine. Kids are even worse.
All you have to do to clean laminate floors is take hot soapy water and a mop and voila! I only clean my floors once every month because they really do not get too dirty.
The material that these floors are made from are designed to reduce scratching. I think this is a major upgrade to conventional hardwood flooring which is expensive and only more valuable because its the "real thing."
Ever seen a house when oak hardwood flooring was installed. It looks fantastic! For the first day. Now take a look at it after you have moved furniture in, moved items around, put chairs on it, and especially look under your computer chair. You will see tons of dents and scratches. After a year I have seen some houses look terrible.
Now take a look at a house with laminate flooring outfitted in it. What do you see? You will most likely see not dents and no scratches. Plus, it will still look shinny and brand new.
What you have to keep in mind is that laminate is made to withstand stress, furniture, and condensation. If a piece of your flooring does get damaged all you have to do is rip that one piece out and replace it with a new one. With oak hardwood you can sand it down, which is nice, but with laminate you just replace that one piece. Pergo makes this super easy and fast.
You can get laminate flooring from 99 cents a square foot to $2.50 a square foot for the premium quality pieces. This is a lot more affordable than any other type of flooring. Its cheap to purchase, easy to install, and not hard whatsoever to maintain. Its a win, win.
